Finding The Product For The Market…Not The Market For The Product

I’ve come to realize in a few ways I have gotten internet marketing ass backwards. You see I always created products on more of a whim then anything. Of course, I did the basic research to ensure that there was enough traffic to warrant such a product and on with my creation I went.

Working on eBay has changed my mind frame on this. You see that last thing you want to do on eBay is just randomly select something to sell without knowing the market exists, otherwise you will end up with a house full of blue widgets when it is only the red ones that are currently selling.

So how do you find the market first?

Well this is where eBay cleared the fog…you see they have the advanced search feature…you can use this to seek out completed auctions…what you for are products that are selling consistently and have a fair amount of bidding action. Now the reason you want to find these types of products is that with it selling consistantly at certain rates you will know if it gives you a profit margin or a loss…before you ever purchase any product to sell. Now some will say doubling your money is all you need…I myself prefer more to shoot for the stars and find something that is selling at a four to one mark up…that means if I were to buy it at $10 it would have to be selling consistantly at $40…or thereabouts at least…

Does this mean that is what you will get every auction…of course not. But what it does ensure is that you are at least minimizing your risk…you are less likely to sell at a loss and if you do…shit happens…the profit margins on the other product sales will more than make up for it.

But that is it for today…stayed tuned for more ways to optimize your eBay income stream.
